GOPIO Business Council Roadshow in Pahang

On 11 May 2025, the Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) Malaysia conducted the GIBC & GMBC Roadshow – Pahang at the Pahang Indian Association in Raub. The event formed part of a series of regional engagements aimed at expanding outreach to entrepreneurs and business owners of Indian origin across Malaysia.

The programme was led by GOPIO Malaysia Committee Member, Velayudaraja, and was organised in collaboration with the Pahang Indian Association. The session brought together 40 participants, including local entrepreneurs, business owners, and community representatives from the surrounding region.

Extending Business Engagement to the East Coast

The roadshow introduced participants to the objectives and programmes of the GOPIO International Business Council (GIBC) and the GOPIO Malaysia Business Council (GMBC). These platforms aim to strengthen business collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and international networking among entrepreneurs of Indian origin across different countries.

Through presentations and discussions, participants gained insight into cross-border business support channels, trade opportunities, and the potential advantages of connecting with the wider GOPIO global business network. The session also provided an opportunity for entrepreneurs to exchange views on the challenges and opportunities facing businesses in the eastern region of Peninsular Malaysia.

Importance of Regional Business Inclusion

Engagement with entrepreneurs in regions such as Pahang is important in ensuring that diaspora-led business initiatives remain inclusive and representative of communities beyond major urban centres.

By organising outreach programmes in regional locations, GOPIO Malaysia aims to provide greater access to networking opportunities, mentorship, and international business platforms, allowing entrepreneurs from different parts of the country to participate in wider economic and diaspora-driven initiatives.

Impact and Future Collaboration

The roadshow helped raise awareness among participants about available support mechanisms and international networking opportunities through GOPIO’s business councils, while encouraging entrepreneurs to explore new partnerships and market opportunities.

As a follow-up, GOPIO Malaysia plans to collaborate with the Pahang Indian Association to organise future programmes, including business networking sessions, knowledge-sharing initiatives, and regional engagement activities.

The programme also marked GOPIO Malaysia’s first structured business engagement in an East Coast state under the GIBC and GMBC framework, representing an important step towards building a more connected and inclusive network of diaspora entrepreneurs across Malaysia.
