Welcome Dinner for Newly Appointed Counsellor Shri Naveen Ramakrishnan

On 9 October 2025, the Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) Malaysia hosted a welcome dinner for Naveen Ramakrishnan, the newly appointed Counsellor at the High Commission of India in Malaysia. The gathering was held at the GOPIO Malaysia Secretariat in Kuala Lumpur.

The event was led by GOPIO Malaysia President, Gunasekaran Sreerangan, and attended by 10 participants, including members of the organisation and close collaborators. The gathering served as an opportunity to extend a formal welcome and to initiate dialogue with the newly appointed diplomatic representative.

Strengthening Community–Diplomatic Engagement

The dinner provided a platform for participants to introduce GOPIO Malaysia’s initiatives and ongoing programmes, while also discussing matters of mutual interest relating to the Malaysian Indian diaspora and community engagement.

Such informal gatherings play an important role in establishing constructive working relationships between diaspora organisations and diplomatic missions, enabling both parties to better understand community needs, programmes, and collaborative opportunities.

Importance of Early Engagement

Welcoming newly appointed diplomatic representatives allows community organisations to build rapport and open channels of communication at an early stage of their tenure. These interactions help ensure that community initiatives and diaspora-related matters remain well understood by diplomatic missions.

For GOPIO Malaysia, the dinner offered an opportunity to highlight its ongoing efforts in community engagement, cultural initiatives, academic dialogue, and international diaspora networking.

Looking Ahead

The meeting laid the foundation for continued collaboration between GOPIO Malaysia and the High Commission of India in Kuala Lumpur. Moving forward, the organisation intends to schedule periodic consultations with Counsellor Shri Naveen Ramakrishnan to explore areas of cooperation and community engagement.

The welcome dinner also reflected GOPIO Malaysia’s commitment to maintaining strong and cordial relationships with the High Commission of India, ensuring continued dialogue and cooperation in support of diaspora initiatives in Malaysia.
