Unity Walk in Conjunction with Malaysia Day

The Unity Walk and Celebration, held on 16th September 2024 in conjunction with Malaysia Day, symbolized solidarity among Malaysia’s diverse communities. Co-organized by GOPIO Malaysia and Laasya Arts, the event brought together over 50 participants from various ethnicities, including GOPIO Malaysia President Gunasekaren, Secretary General Sashidharan, and overseas delegates. This gathering underscored the spirit of unity and collaboration that Malaysia Day represents.

The walk commenced at Vivekananda Ashrama and followed a scenic route through Jalan Tun Sambanthan, Jalan Sultan, and Jalan Rozzario, culminating at SMK Vivekananda. Along the way, participants promoted messages of unity and harmony, demonstrating the strength and beauty of Malaysia’s multi-ethnic society. The route itself was chosen to connect iconic landmarks, reflecting the nation’s vibrant cultural heritage.

The celebration highlighted Malaysia’s rich diversity, emphasizing the organizers’ commitment to fostering cultural inclusivity and strengthening community bonds. The event concluded with a lively lion dance performance and the singing of Malay songs, symbolizing the nation’s harmonious multi-cultural identity.

Among the VIPs in attendance were Special Officers to the Minister of Federal Territories and the Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability. Their presence further underscored the significance of the event in promoting national unity and celebrating Malaysia’s unique cultural tapestry.
