On September 16, 2024, the “Film Conference: The Beginning, Growth, and Impact of the Frames of Imagination” was held at Vivekananda Ashrama in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur, from 2 PM to 5 PM. The event was a significant part of Malaysia’s PIO (People of Indian Origin) Day celebrations and was co-organized by Malaysian Indian Heritage and VANVIM Studios. Approximately 120 attendees gathered to delve into the rich history and dynamic evolution of cinema in Malaysia, with a particular focus on the contributions of PIOs and the influence of Indian cinema.

The conference celebrated the legacy of Malaysian cinema, shedding light on the roles PIOs have played in shaping the industry. Key discussions revolved around the historical development of Malaysian films, cultural exchanges between Indian and Malaysian cinema, and the emergence of PIO-focused narratives. It also highlighted the collaborations and joint ventures between the Malaysian and Indian film industries, showcasing the shared artistic and cultural bonds.
