From September 14 to 16, 2024, SJKT Vivekananda hosted a lively festival celebrating Traditional Outdoor and Indoor Games, Children’s Activities, and the “Art of Making” activity. The event drew approximately 500 participants of all age groups, who enthusiastically engaged in a range of traditional Indian games and activities. The festival aimed to revive and celebrate cultural heritage while fostering community spirit and intergenerational bonding.

The outdoor games, including Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, and Gilli-Danda, offered participants an immersive experience that promoted physical fitness, teamwork, and a deeper connection to their cultural roots. These activities not only brought a sense of nostalgia for older generations but also introduced younger participants to the joy and vibrancy of traditional Indian sports.

Indoor games, such as Pallanguzhi, Paramapadham (similar to Snakes and Ladders), and Chaturanga, the precursor to modern chess, highlighted the intellectual traditions of PIOs. They provided a platform for participants to explore the strategic and recreational pastimes that have been cherished across generations.

In addition to the games, Children’s Activities—such as storytelling sessions, arts and crafts, and traditional play—created a fun and interactive environment for younger generations. These activities fostered creativity and curiosity while instilling a sense of pride in their heritage. The “Art of Making” sessions further enriched the festival by encouraging participants to learn and appreciate traditional crafts and techniques, ensuring the preservation of these valuable skills. Overall, the event served as a vibrant celebration of culture, community, and heritage.
