The PIO International Festival 2024 began on a grand note with its Opening Ceremony held on 14th September 2024. The event was attended by prominent dignitaries from Malaysia and India, reflecting the strong bonds between the two nations. The ceremony was jointly inaugurated by Yang Berhormat Tuan Gobind Singh Deo, Honourable Minister for Digital of Malaysia, and His Excellency Shri Kirti Vardhan Singh, Honourable Minister of State for External Affairs of India.

The ceremony began with the lighting of the traditional lamp, a symbolic act that signifies unity and progress. This was followed by a heartfelt welcome address by Mr. Gunasekaren Sreerangan, the President of GOPIO Malaysia. He set the stage by emphasizing the festival’s importance in celebrating and preserving the shared heritage of the Indian diaspora.

The dignitaries delivered inspiring speeches that underscored the deep cultural and historical ties between India and Malaysia. Yang Berhormat Tuan Gobind Singh Deo and His Excellency Shri Kirti Vardhan Singh highlighted the festival’s role in promoting these bonds while fostering a sense of togetherness among the global Indian community. His Excellency Mr. B.N. Reddy, the High Commissioner of India to Malaysia, also spoke about the significance of such events in enhancing bilateral relationships and cultural exchange.

The Opening Ceremony concluded with vibrant cultural performances that celebrated the rich heritage and diversity of the PIO community. These artistic displays captivated the audience and added a festive spirit to the occasion.
