The PIO History & Heritage Exhibition was held from September 14 to 16, 2024, at Kandiah Hall under the chairmanship of Mr. Shashiedharan. Over the course of three days, the event brought together 12 exhibitors and attracted more than 2,000 visitors. This thoughtfully curated showcase delved into the migration, contributions, and influence of People of Indian Origin (PIOs) in Malaysia, offering a rich tapestry of rare photographs, documents, and artifacts that traced their remarkable journeys.
The exhibition covered a wide array of topics, including the Bujang Valley, the Indian National Army, traditional saris, the Chettiar Collection, and profiles of notable PIOs. It also featured articles on the diverse ethnic PIO communities, such as Tamils, Telugus, Malayalees, Punjabis, Oriyas, Gujaratis, Bengalees, and the Melaka Chitty. Together, these elements painted a vivid picture of the historical and cultural significance of PIOs in Malaysia.
With the tagline “Honouring the past, embracing the legacy,” the event aimed to deepen awareness of PIO history, instill community pride, and spark intergenerational dialogue about legacy and culture. By connecting past achievements with present aspirations, the exhibition inspired visitors—especially youth and children—to embrace their rich heritage and envision a brighter future.
