Meeting with the Honourable Minister of State for Defence, Shri Sanjay Seth

On 22 May 2025, a delegation from the Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) Malaysia held a courtesy meeting with Sanjay Seth, Minister of State for Defence, Government of India, at the Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur.

The delegation was led by GOPIO Malaysia Chairman, Ponnusamy Muthaya, and comprised 10 members representing the organisation. The meeting provided an opportunity for GOPIO Malaysia representatives to extend greetings and engage in a brief exchange of views with the visiting minister.

Courtesy Engagement with Government Leadership

During the meeting, Shri Sanjay Seth shared perspectives on India’s defence initiatives and its cooperative engagements with international partners, including Malaysia. The discussion offered participants an opportunity to gain insights into areas of strategic collaboration and the broader context of bilateral relations.

Although the visit was primarily a courtesy engagement, it provided a platform for constructive dialogue and strengthened mutual understanding between diaspora organisations and representatives of the Government of India.

Importance of Diaspora–Government Engagement

Interactions between diaspora organisations and visiting government leaders play an important role in strengthening communication channels and fostering goodwill. Such engagements enable diaspora representatives to remain informed about developments in India while also highlighting the contributions and perspectives of overseas Indian communities.

For GOPIO Malaysia, these meetings form part of its broader commitment to supporting constructive engagement with institutions and representatives from India, particularly when opportunities arise during official visits to Malaysia.

Looking Ahead

Following the meeting, GOPIO Malaysia reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining active engagement with visiting representatives from the Government of India, supporting initiatives that contribute to stronger bilateral understanding and cooperation.

The engagement with Shri Sanjay Seth reflects GOPIO Malaysia’s ongoing efforts to maintain cordial relations with India’s leadership and institutions, while continuing to represent the interests and perspectives of the Malaysian Indian diaspora within international dialogues.
