The Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) Malaysia proudly invites Malaysian People of Indian Origin (PIOs) to be part of the highly anticipated Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) 2025, to be held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India. Organised by the Government of India, this prestigious event will take place from the 8th to the 10th of January 2025, featuring a Youth PBD on the 8th of January, followed by the main events on the 9th and 10th of January.

Origin and History of PBD

The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas was first celebrated in 2003 to mark the contribution of the overseas Indian community to the development of India. The date, 9th January, was chosen to commemorate the return of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa to India in 1915, a moment that symbolises the power of the diaspora in shaping India’s destiny. Since its inception, PBD has evolved into a global platform for dialogue, collaboration, and celebration of Indian heritage.
