Meeting the All-Party Delegation of India to Malaysia

On 1 June 2025, representatives of the Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) Malaysia participated in a meeting with an All-Party Delegation of India at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Indian Cultural Centre.

The session was attended by a GOPIO Malaysia delegation of seven members, led by Chairman Ponnusamy Muthaya. The engagement formed part of ongoing interactions between diaspora organisations and visiting representatives of the Government of India.

Dialogue with Indian Parliamentary Representatives

The meeting provided an opportunity for participants to hear directly from members of the All-Party Delegation of India, who shared perspectives on India’s current foreign policy priorities, diaspora engagement, and regional developments.

Discussions included insights into India’s diplomatic and strategic outlook, as well as perspectives on issues affecting international relations, including the broader context of India’s relationship with Pakistan. The exchange enabled participants to gain a deeper understanding of the policy considerations shaping India’s international engagements.

Importance of Parliamentary Engagement

Interactions between diaspora organisations and visiting parliamentary delegations are important in strengthening dialogue between overseas Indian communities and policymakers in India. Such engagements allow diaspora representatives to remain informed about policy developments while also providing a platform for the exchange of views on matters affecting diaspora communities.

For GOPIO Malaysia, the meeting represented an opportunity to reinforce its commitment to maintaining constructive engagement with India’s democratic institutions and leadership.

Strengthening Diaspora–Government Dialogue

The session also highlighted the value of platforms that facilitate direct communication between diaspora organisations and Indian parliamentarians. These engagements contribute to better mutual understanding and help strengthen connections between overseas Indian communities and India’s public institutions.

By participating in dialogues of this nature, GOPIO Malaysia continues to support informed engagement with visiting representatives from India, while fostering a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect between the Malaysian Indian diaspora and policymakers in India.
