The Sari Contest took place on Sunday, 15th September 2024, at the Main Stage of SMK Vivekananda in Brickfields Little India, Kuala Lumpur. Held in the evening, the event celebrated the timeless elegance of the traditional Indian garment, the sari. Six finalists competed, showcasing their creativity through unique draping styles, a walk, an interview, and a performance of their special talents. The contest aimed to promote the use of the sari, encouraging cultural pride and appreciation for its rich heritage.
The judging panel included Ms. Mala Perumal (GOPIO), Ms. Gayathri Arunasalam (Laasya Arts), and Ms. Rathipriyah Balsan (Balsan’s Events & Productions), while the Deputy High Commissioner of South Africa, Mr. Machiel Van Niekerk, graced the event as the Chief Guest. Their presence lent prestige to the contest, which highlighted the sari as a symbol of Indian tradition and artistry.
This vibrant event added a colorful spectacle to the festivities in Brickfields Little India, drawing a crowd of enthusiastic festival-goers.
