From September 14 to 16, 2024, the Festival at SJKT Vivekananda in Brickfields Little India featured a noteworthy health initiative offering free health and cancer screenings to visitors. Running daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., this program aimed to promote health awareness and wellness within the PIO (People of Indian Origin) community. Co-organized by the Cancer Society of Malaysia, the initiative provided basic medical check-ups and personalized advice from healthcare professionals.
The screenings were conducted in a dedicated room by a team of over 12 healthcare personnel, ensuring participants received attentive and professional care. More than 100 visitors availed themselves of this valuable service, which included assessments of general health indicators and counseling on preventive measures. The program highlighted the importance of regular check-ups in maintaining health and detecting potential issues early.
Adding to the initiative’s impact, a truck from the Cancer Society of Malaysia was stationed at the venue, offering additional resources and support for participants. This mobile unit extended the reach of the program, enabling attendees to access information and services conveniently. It also underscored the commitment of the organizers to fostering a health-conscious community.
The free screenings added a meaningful dimension to the festival by emphasizing the role of wellness and preventive care in daily life. They complemented the event’s cultural and economic activities, providing attendees with an opportunity to prioritize their health while enjoying the festivities.
This initiative not only addressed immediate health concerns but also encouraged ongoing health awareness and proactive habits. By combining community engagement with preventive healthcare, the screenings left a lasting impression and reinforced the value of integrating wellness initiatives into community events.
