GOPIO Malaysia’s National Young Changemaker Camp 2025

From 18 to 20 April 2025, Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) Malaysia organised the National Young Changemaker Camp 2025 at Asli Adventure Camp. The programme brought together 50 Malaysian youth of Indian origin for a three-day leadership and community engagement camp designed to nurture the next generation of responsible and socially conscious leaders.

The camp was led by GOPIO Malaysia Secretary, Gopalakrishnan Kolandai, and formed part of the organisation’s broader commitment to youth development and community empowerment.

Building Leadership and Civic Responsibility

The National Young Changemaker Camp focused on developing essential skills among participants, including leadership, teamwork, civic engagement, and community service. Through a range of structured activities, group discussions, and outdoor challenges, participants were encouraged to work collaboratively while building confidence and interpersonal skills.

The programme also emphasised the importance of social responsibility and active citizenship, encouraging young participants to consider how they can contribute positively to their communities and the wider Malaysian society.

Impact on Youth Development

Over the course of the camp, participants demonstrated notable growth in leadership and teamwork abilities, reflecting the effectiveness of experiential learning and collaborative activities in fostering personal development.

The camp also created an environment where young participants could build networks, exchange ideas, and develop a shared sense of purpose, strengthening connections among youth within the community.

Looking Ahead

The success of the National Young Changemaker Camp 2025 has encouraged GOPIO Malaysia to explore the establishment of an annual youth development programme, which would allow the organisation to continue mentoring participants and monitoring their contributions to society.

As a foundational platform for structured youth leadership training, the camp represents an important step in empowering young Malaysians of Indian origin to become active contributors to community development and national progress.
