Ganesan Kolandai

GANESAN KOLANDAI
(GOPIO International Excellence Award 2017 – HEAVY MACHINERY INDUSTRY)

Born on August 9th, 1960 in Kedah, Mr. Ganesan is the eldest son or Mr. Kolandai who was a bus driver. His mother was a house wife. Due to hardship he had to stop schooling at the age of 16 and work as a farm helper to supplement the income of his family.

IN 1980, he joined a Japanese firm, AzanBumi as a supervisor. He was overseeing the workers & equipment of the hydroelectric dam project of the company in Grik, Perak for a period of five years. He then moved to another Japanese firm based in in Langkawi and was the Senior Technician overseeing construction of a cement factory, mini hydro-electric dam project, and airport runway and road expansion work of the Island. He was well exposed in heavy equipment, fabrications, modifications to machinery and overall earth work.

After another four years stint of working for somebody else, together with some friends he formed a smelting company (SMP1), Perusahanaan Jayaletchumi Sdn Bhd The company was initiated with a startup capital of RM200,000 and eventually grew to generate a revenue of RM1.2 million a year. The company was employing more than 157 workers. He served as a Director for eight years before co-founding G.K Mountain Sdn Bhd, a company dealing with port work, heavy machinery, stevedore and discharging of cargoes from vessels.

Having gained vast and significant experience and knowledge of the past 35 years into the field of discharging and handling of cargoes, he the co- founded VIN MOUNTAIN SDN BHD as a family business. He is now continuing the business of hiring of heavy machinery, mechanical services, and heavy machinery spare parts, contractors for dry bulk cargoes, scrap materials handling services. Mr. Ganesan is poised to grow further in this line of business and will expand when the right opportunity comes.

Mr. Ganesan believes that helping others will help him grow personally. He on monthly basis to donates to orphanages. He supports the orphanage and the needy ones in his town by sponsoring items for their activities. He is also a regularly donor of prayer materials and distribute free food in temples. As for people who needs a job and are willing to work hard, Mr. Ganesan is ever willing to support and guide them.

Mr. Ganesan attributes his success to willingness to learn and explore. There must commitment and hard work in whatever we do. He believes with all these attributes all will fall in place well.
