Diaspora is an extremely valuable factor in International Relations, it is a heritage resource. It has implications on the political and institutional life of the host nations and also has importance in creating economic progress first in the lands where they settled and later on from where they migrated.
Moreover, due to the past history of colonialism, Indian Diaspora has had a presence in Europe since the eighteenth century. The role of the Indian Diaspora in the European nations is extremely important as it is a new - old Diaspora and has had a continuous presence for the past 70 years in significant numbers in some regions. The Indian diaspora in Europe and Britain is also unique as it embodies the first transnational movements under globalization. They have contributed to the ideas and ideologies and enormous labor and capital to the countries they have settled in.
This paper is divided into three sections: the first section deals with the Indian diaspora as a resource in the European nations, the potentials realized and possibilities of the Indian diaspora playing a catalyst role in Indo -European relations. The second part of the paper looks at the global network of Indians in the European nations. The focus is on their structures, policy and missions that narrate their histories, geographies and challenges. The third section deals with the emergent opportunities for the Indian Diaspora networks in Europe in the current era of globalization.
