GOPIO International Delegation Meets the Prime Minister of Mauritius
16th GOPIO International Convention 2026, to be held in Mauritius from 11–13 September 2026.

A GOPIO International delegation led by Secretary General Mr. A. Ravendiran Arjunan met with The Prime Minister of Mauritius, Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, following the successful 16th GOPIO International Convention held in Mauritius from 11 to 13 September 2026.
The meeting focused on strengthening the role of Mauritius as the Capital of People of Indian Origin (PIO) and enhancing cooperation among PIO communities around the world.
Among the key matters discussed was the need to establish a dedicated monument in Mauritius recognising and commemorating its status as the PIO Capital. Such a landmark would help create greater public awareness of Mauritius’ special place within the global PIO community and serve as a lasting symbol of the shared heritage and contribution of people of Indian origin worldwide.
The delegation also highlighted the need to organise a PIO Youth Conference biennially in Mauritius, bringing together young people of Indian origin from different countries to exchange ideas, discuss matters of common interest, develop international networks and strengthen the next generation of PIO leadership. The proposal is intended to complement ongoing digital youth engagement initiatives such as PIO Connect.
The discussions further touched on international PIO cooperation, youth engagement, business opportunities and potential collaboration in Artificial Intelligence (AI). Around 70 delegates participated in AI-related discussions during the 16th GOPIO International Convention.
The engagement represents an opportunity to further strengthen connections between Mauritius and PIO communities worldwide through heritage, youth leadership, technology, business and international cooperation.
