Thiagarajan Letchumanan

Mr. Thiagarajan Letchumanan was born in Sungai Tukang Estate, Sg Petani Kedah. He is the youngest of o six siblings. His father, Mr Letchumanan, a Bus Driver and his mother was a Rubber Tapper. Whilst in secondary 1 & 2 Mr. Thiagarajan use to help his mother to tap rubber in the morning and go to school in the afternoon. The extra income was to pay for my tuition fees. Over the weekend he does odd jobs to supplement he income of the family. At the age of 18 he lost his mother due to cancer and when he was 19 his father died of heart attack. This turn of unfortunate events rendered him to unable to continue his studies as there were financial constrain in the family.

In 1995, he started his own transport company and several other small businesses. During this period he completed his MBA and became a Manager in a construction company. He started his career as lecturer and trainer in a local college teaching management before being appointed as a Director in ISSB (M) Sdn. Bhd. in the construction and manufacturing industry where he had handled over 58 projects as a Project Director and Supervisor which honed his business and management skills.

After a five years stint and with the blessing of his boss he started his own construction company North Big Builders Sdn Bhd in 2009. Being a new company in the market place and facing many challenges he made it good with good help from the Indian based business fraternities. Today Thiaggu as he is fondly known as in the industry is regarded as a successful young dynamic entrepreneur who is fast rising in the local construction industry. A charismatic leader and recognised as a strategic business leader, Thiagarajan is also a recipient of the Perdana Young Indian Entrepreneur Award for Excellence in the Construction Industry.

Thiagarajan Letchumanan is widely regarded for his social consciousness and is actively involved in community activities and this is evident from his deep involvement in politics and NGO activities. He holds portfolios in several youth organizations. He is currently the Head Pertubuhan Belia India Merbok, Vice Chairman of Dewan Perniagaan Negeri Kedah and Vice Chairman of Usahawan Muda Kebangsaan of Dewan Perniagaan India Malaysia. He is also the MIC youth chairman for the state of Kedah.

Thiagarajan’s outstanding leadership skills is further evident in his management of Koperasi Pembangunan India Kedah as Chairman and Director till date. In sports he is active as Organising Chairman of Sukan India Kedah and Kedah State Director for Sukan India Malaysia. He is also an active Rotarian of Bandar Sungai Petani.
