In a pursuit to assist rural-based Tamil schools, GOPIO is embarking on identifying schools that need additional assistance, especially the partially aided schools. On 7th April 2022, we visited (Mr Thanikasalamand and Dr Mathivanan) visited SJK(T) Ladang Mary Tamil school, Bestari Jaya, Selangor which is located about 40 km from Kuala Lumpur. It is a partially aided school with 15 students and 10 teachers. As many workers (PIOs) left the estate seeking better opportunities outside, pupil enrolment has dwindled to a very low level. However, the newly appointed Head Master Mr Subramaniamis devising strategies to improve the school’s performance as well as student enrollment. Though it’s an onerous task to encourage outside parents to send their kids to this school, painstaking efforts need to be made to encourage them by fulfilling the requirement. According to Mr Thanikasalam digitalisation is one way of attracting parents to send their kids to this school. Among the main issues faced by the school are as follows:

  1. Poor Infrastructure (Building, Roads, drainage, Internet connectivity).
  2.  Frequent floods occur due to heavy rain.
  3.  Office equipment( computers, Photograph machines) is in very poor condition.
  4.  No proper Resource centre (Library, Computers ) and canteen.
  5. No functioning office.
  6. Estate management was unwilling to give cooperation and assistance for any needs.

PIBG and LPD are in a good working relationship with the HMand also giving the necessary support. Therefore with some assistance from GOPIO, we can build a short/ midterm relationship with the school. Thereafter we need to work with all stakeholders on other matters. We are very sure all these efforts will propitious our aims. The School urgently require 6 computers. We are undertaking due diligence on the schools before rendering our service to the schools in 30 days.
