The Raja Raja & Rajendra Chola Conference Chennai 2022, was held on the 24th and 25th of August, 2022 at the Accord Hotel in Chennai, India. Conceived with a twofold purpose, the event aspired to amplify global awareness of the Chola empire’s monumental legacy while spotlighting Kadaram’s untapped potential as an enticing tourist destination. The conference was spearheaded by Mr. Gunasekaran Sreerangan, President of GOPIO Malaysia.
This conference was made possible through the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders, including the commendable support of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) such as the Global Tamil Organisation (GTO) and the participation of students hailing from prestigious universities in Chennai. Mr. Chezhiyan from GTO delivered the welcome speech, setting the tone for insightful discussions to ensue. Dr. Subashini Kanaga, Founder Member of Tamil Heritage Foundation, Germany, offered a thought-provoking keynote address, delving into the facets of Chola heritage.
Diverse perspectives on the Chola legacy were presented by Mr. Chola Naachiar Rajasekar – President of the Tamil Chamber of Commerce, Dr. Kalawalli Chandramohan from the Open University of Sri Lanka and Mr. V. Ravi, founder Chairman of Ecargolog. Collectively, these voices stitched a rich narrative, interweaving historical grandeur with contemporary interpretations.
The conference attracted the participation of 95 scholars, enthusiasts, and academicians from India, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Bahrain, Germany, and Sweden. The Conference fostered renewed interest and understanding of the Chola dynasty’s influence on India and Southeast Asia.
The conference also aimed at introducing and promoting the Bujang Valley and the story of Kadaram to the world. Likewise, the conference also recommended to the government of India to appropriately recognise and celebrate the feats of the Cholas. The Raja Raja & Rajendra Chola Conference Chennai 2022 aptly echoed the resounding legacy of ancient India.
GOPIO Malaysia firmly stated its intention to promote the Bujang Valley as an ancient cultural and economic centre and tourist destination in Malaysia, especially in the PIO-populated countries and India.
