Malaysians In India Told To Register At High Commission

NEW DELHI, June 4 (Bernama) — The Malaysian High Commission here has initiated a special campaign to register all Malaysians residing in India to ensure their safety during any contingencies.
Malaysia’s High Commissioner to India Datuk Tan Seng Sung said the move was in line with the government’s request to all missions abroad to compile data of Malaysians living overseas.
“We need to have data of all Malaysians living in India to facilitate communication during any eventualities.
“Our high commission in Delhi is in the process of formulating a comprehensive programme for expatriate Malaysians in case there is any major disaster,” Tan told Malaysians gathered here to celebrate the King’s birthday.
An estimated 2,500 Malaysians, mostly working for Malaysian-based companies, including 2,000 students are residing in India, mainly in the southern part.
He said Malaysian consul-general offices in Chennai and Mumbai had also been directed to carry out the process, where Malaysians could register their residential addresses and contact details.
Under the scorching Indian summer morning, a flag hoisting ceremony was held in conjunction with the event, held at the Malaysian High Commission premises in Delhi.
