CHENNAI, June 1 (Bernama) — A Chennai-based generic drug maker is getting ready to launch a range of drugs in the Malaysian pharmaceutical market this July.
Delvin Formulations Pvt Ltd which is involved in research and development of new drugs for the United States and regulated markets, is exploring new opportunities in the growing Southeast Asian region.
“We are in the process of negotiating with a Malaysian distributor and will finalise this by July.
“We will launch our oral disintegrant tablets that are good for paediatric patients,” J. Jayaseelan, managing director of Delvin told Bernama.
India has emerged as the world largest generic drug producer, chiefly propelled by home-grown matured India pharmaceutical companies, boasting exports worth US$7.41 billion (RM22.2 billion) last year.
India’s exports to Asean markets stood at US$482 million (RM1.4 billion) in 2010.
“India has become a hub for drug manufacturing. We are producing cheap and quality drugs for the global market. Delvin is trying to establish links in Southeast Asia, like Malaysia and Singapore,” added Jayaseelan.
The company has filed 10 ANDAs (application for new drug approval) with the United States Food and Drug Administration with another eight in the pipeline.
The Malaysian pharmaceutical sector, though yet to peak, is reportedly growing at about eight percent annually and continues to attract foreign drug makers.
“The Malaysian economy is doing very well. There is good scope for Indian pharmaceutical companies that offer quality and cost effective drugs,” Jayaseelan said.
