An Indian origin official will take over as the managing director of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) from April 2, according to a media report. Ravi Menon, currently the Permanent Secretary (Trade and Industry), will take over the charges from Heng Swee Keat.
Menon joined MAS in 1987 and rose to become an assistant managing director before holding other government posts. The 47-year-old, who obtained a Masters degree in Public Administration from Harvard University, became the assistant managing director of Singapores’ de facto central bank in 2002.
Heng is tipped to enter politics under the ruling People’s Action Party in the coming General Election, expected in May, the report said.
