Malaysian Indian businesses facing closure in absence of adequate foreign skilled workers

Kuala Lumpur, Oct 4 (ANI): The Malaysian Indian Business Association has urged the government look into the problem of staff shortages and allow more foreign skilled workers to be a part of their businesses.
“We do not have locals who are skilled in these traditional fields and that is why foreign talent is needed,” The Star quoted the Malaysian Indian Business Association president P. Sivakumar, as saying.
He further said that the Indian clothing, restaurants and hair saloons not only attract locals but have the potential to draw tourists from other countries, and therefore their growth should be encouraged.
Moreover, the current limit on foreign worker intake had caused many businesses to close down, because of which, the country was losing millions of ringgits in revenue, Sivakumar stressed.
“With Deepavali drawing near, many businesses are forced to reject orders not because they do not want to work but because they do not have enough manpower,” he added.
He said the association acknowledged that there was a need to train locals for these businesses, but a proper long-term plan was needed. (ANI)
