MIHA Creates Award To Appreciate Indian Community’s Contribution

KUALA LUMPUR, July 5 (Bernama) — The Malaysian Indian Historical Association National Award (MIHA 2010) was launched Monday to show appreciation to Indian individuals who have made significant contribution to the nation.
Deputy Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Maglin Dennis D`Cruz, when launching the award, said the honour would feature prominent personalities within the Indian community who had brought glory to the country.
“Sometimes, people don’t know who they are. So, with this award, those who have contributed much deeds would be known,” he said.
At the function, he also received a cheque for RM25,000 on behalf of MIHA from the managing director of the Yayasan Kebajikan Pekerja Asing Berhad, M. Rejenikanthen, for the award.
Eleven awards would be up for grabs including the Indian student award for various talents (general category), university category, intellectuals, social workers, excellent government staff, private sector professionals, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), outstanding male and female athletes, individual achievements, entrepreneurs and life-long achievements.
MIHA 2010 will be held on Oct 9 at the Auditorium Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur.
