imagesKUALA LUMPUR, June 27 (Bernama) — A special committee jointly chaired by the Human Resources Ministry and Home Ministry has been set up to deal with the issue of foreign workers faced by Indian traders.

Human Resources Minister Datuk Dr S Subramaniam said the committee would also deal with the influx of foreign workers into the country.

“The foreign workers issue is a huge issue which we should tackle together. The government wants the issue to be dealt with in an orderly manner,” he told a news conference after opening the 59th Malaysian Associated Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry delegates’ meeting on Sunday.

He said the committee would make decisions based on recommendations by the foreign workers management laboratory.

On claims by foreign workers hired to build the new Istana Negara that they had not received three months’ wages from some of the project’s sub-contractors, he said the ministry had not received reports on the matter.

“We can investigate but we have not receive any specific report from any person… so, until that (report) is made, we cannot take action against the contractors,” he said when asked to comment on the matter which was reported by the Sunday Star today.
