THE Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin-Malaysia (Gopio) together with the Penang State Hindu Endowments Board will hold a four-day International PIO Festival on the island from Sept 11 to 14.
The festival is to demonstrate the strong values of “Unity in Diversity” in Malaysia and in the PIO community, Gopio Malaysia president Selvarajoo Sundram said.
“The main objective of the festival is to promote Malaysia, especially Penang, as an important global tourist destination for multiculturalism, festivals, trade and investments,” he said.
The festival will highlight classical, folk and pop music, provide a friendly environment and cost-effective hospitality facilities for a large number of PIOs expected to turn up and also present venues for networking and dialogues for business, youth activities and sports, Selvarajoo said.
Other activities at the festival include a food fest depicting the ethnic cuisines of Malaysia, a handicraft bazaar and yoga talks and clinics Gopio and the Penang Deputy Chief Minister’s Office are the principal promotors of the festival.
Local Indian civil society organisations are encourage to take part in the activities to celebrate the variety of cultural practices in Malaysia as well.
